Connect your students with Southeast Asia: Teach a COIL Class!
Overview:
The SUNY/CUNY SEAC aims to develop a series of six collaborative online international learning (COIL) classes, together with partner institutions in Southeast Asia, for Spring 2027 and Fall 2027. We are offering grants of $500 each for the faculty member in the US and in Southeast Asia as incentive to develop courses that will connect SUNY and CUNY undergraduate or graduate students with counterparts in Southeast Asia. For details on what COIL entails, see this website or watch our webinar here.
Eligibility:
Any instructor of record for an undergrad- or grad-level SUNY or CUNY course (preferably semester-length, though we will consider proposals for Winter/Summer-term classes) may apply.
Deadline:
We will consider proposals on a rolling basis, while funds last (but for Spring 2027, please make sure to apply by October 1).
What to Submit:
A draft syllabus, clearly specifying the COIL component
CVs for both instructors (in SUNY/CUNY and in Southeast Asia)
A brief (1-2 page) statement of your experience in/on Southeast Asia and/or with COIL or study-abroad, the impact you expect the class to have (anticipated enrollment, any follow-on opportunities for students, etc.), and any other key details we should know.
Once the course has concluded, we will also require a brief writeup from the instructors on both sides (together or separately) of how it went, including your ideas for improvement and an estimate of when you will teach the course next, together or with different partners -- we hope these courses will be sustained over time.
